Jussi Parkkinen is Member of the board of the InFotonics Center (http://www.ifc.joensuu.fi/)
He is academic coordinator for CIMET. He got his PhD. degree in Mathematics with thesis topic in Pattern Recognition in 1989, at the University of Kuopio, Finland. He is a fellow of the International Association for Pattern Recognition and was Chairman of the Finnish Pattern Recognition Society from 1995 to 1999.
Research topics : Mathematical approach to the Spectral Color Science, Spectral Image Analysis and Models of Biological Visual Systems. He has published about 150 articles in refereed international scientific journals and conferences. He has given invited presentations and tutorials in international conferences
Teaching activities : Since 1999, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Eastern Finland. He is visiting professor at the Chiba University, Japan. Pattern Recognition, Computational Color, Advanced Pattern Recognition , which belong to the specialization of “Media Computing” and Discrete Structures . He has lectured in international Image Analysis and Color Science courses in Koblenz, Saint-Etienne, Budapest, and Granada. He is Head of international MSc-Programs “IMPIT” and “CBU-Information and Communications Technology” at the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu.

Markku Hauta-Kasari is Director of the InFotonics Center (http://www.ifc.joensuu.fi/), Research Center at the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu since 2003.
He got his Ph.D. degree in information processing from the Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland, in 1999. He is representing Finland at the International Committee for Imaging Science, ICIS since 2007 and member of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)
He was Chairman of the Pattern Recognition Society of Finland from May 2003 to May 2006 and Vice Chairman from December 1999 until May 2003.
Research topics : His research interests include Color Research, Neural Computation, Pattern Recognition, Optical Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, Image Processing. At the moment he is leading several applied research projects in the field of spectral color research together with other partners from other research organizations and from the industry.
Teaching activities : Since 1999 he has been working in research and teaching positions at the Department of Computer Science and Statistics, University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu. He is a Docent in spectral imaging and spectral image analysis at the University of Eastern Finland.
He has been lecturing courses on computer science, supervising practical works and practical sessions.

Timo Jääskeläinen is board member of the InFotonics Center (http://www.ifc.joensuu.fi/)
He got his PhD in Physics in 1982 from the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu.
He was member of the Council for Natural Sciences and Engineering, Academy of Finland from 2004 to 2006 and from 2007 to 2009. From 1990 until 2007, he was member of the optics division of the national consultative committee of metrology, Finland. From 1993 until 1995, he was member of the covering body of the North-Carelian Polytechnic University, Joensuu, Finland. From 1990 until 1994, he was member of the Scientific Advisory Board of National Defense, North Carelia division – Finland.
Research topics: His research interests are focused nowadays on color science and applied optics including lighting and display technology, color vision models, color measurement etc. His publications list contains about 150 refereed journal articles, and he has supervised or co-supervised 18 PhDs.
Teaching activities : He has been a Professor and head of the Department of Physics and Mathematics at University of Eastern Finland since 1992. He teaches advanced courses of physics, optics, and color science. He has more than 30 years teaching experience in physics, computer science, and photonics in three universities.

Pertti Silfsten got his PhD in Physics in 1991 from the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu.
Research topics : He focuses on Color science and applied optics including optical measuring systems. His publication list contains about 40 refereed journal articles.
Teaching activities : Currently he is working as a researcher at the Department of Physics and Mathematics at the University of Eastern Finland. He has been lecturing courses of basic physics, applied optics and color science, supervising practical works and diploma theses.

Jarkko Suhonen has a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu in 2005.
Research topics : His research interests are Educational technology, online and distance learning in Computer Science, and design methods in educational technology.
Teaching activities : Since 2008 he has been Senior Assistant at the School of Computing at the University of Eastern Finland. He has been involved in creating and managing the ViSCoS (http://cs.joensuu.fi/viscos) distance learning program and he is currently the co-ordinator of the IMPDET (http://www.impdet.org) online PhD study program. He teaches subjects on state-of-the art technologies in education, design methods in educational technology and research methods in Computer Science
